2 1A Fiesta For My Mouth!

Anyone who knows me will tell you I like two things: beer and tacos. Luckily for me, the Metro Richmond area has a healthy smattering of establishments that serve both. Nacho Mama’s, Su Casa, Mi Hacienda, Baja Bean, La Siesta, ChaCha’s, El Paso… just to name a few.
The wife and I were in need of a celebratory – yet quick – meal after finally closing on our first house a few days ago. She suggested pizza. I suggested tacos. I won.
Mexico Restaurant has 8 locations around the Richmond Region, according to their website. We popped in to the Forest Hill location on our way home from signing a mountain of legal documents. I was nervous my hand was too weak from all that signing that I wouldn’t be able to scoop up the mounds of salsa and cheese dip with their complementary bowl of tortilla chips. But I battled through the pain and filled my belly. *Note: The cheese dip is a must-have, but you have to ask for it. I like to mix it with the salsa and double dip, but only when it’s just me and the wife.
I’m embarrassed to admit it, but we frequent that particular Mexico Restaurant so often that the wait staff knows us by name. Which is kind of nice, actually. It makes me feel like we live in a tight community. Or we eat Mexican food way too often. The service is quick and always on point, so we can stuff our faces and be on our way in less than an hour.
My wife orders the same thing every time: Chicken Quesadilla, one hard-shell taco & rice. She’s an a-la-cart-er. I like to change it up every once in a while. My main orders of choice (depending on mood and amount of Andrew Jacksons in my wallet) are 3 hard tacos with rice & beans, Nachos Supreme, Taco Salad or Fajitas Texanas (steak, shrimp and chicken fajitas… sizzley!).
This particular night, I went with the Chori Pollo because I was in a celebratory mood… and really hungry… and they had a picture of it on the menu that I couldn’t resist. The chicken strips are covered in a Chorizo and melted cheese, served with lettuce, tomato and sour cream. I had to order a side of guacamole. Probably one of the better Mexican-style chicken dishes I’ve had in a while. But I like all Mexican food, so it doesn’t take much to impress me – especially when I’m HONGRY.
I should also mention that Mexico Restaurant has Taco Tuesday – where lunchtime tacos are just $1. And I’m happy to report that our new house is right around the corner from the Hull Street Mexico Restaurant location, as well as a few other local restaurants that serve Mexican style food.
I wonder how long it will be before the wait staff at the Hull Street location learns our names.

Last year I accidentally left my cell phone on the table at Forest Hill Mexico. When I went back the next morning to pick it up ~ it was missing.
By that afternoon I disconnected the phone, but not before someone racked up $150 calling Mexico... the country. The first call being placed 2 minutes after we left the restaurant. Although the manager was cooperative and kind, he insisted it "could have been anybody" calling Mexico.
We have since been drawn back for the delicious food, fast service and cheap tacos ~ (and yes, I need to be more careful with my phone) ~ but that was quite a TIP.
